Arsenal vs Wigan 06 Dec 2008

December 7th, 2008 TheOne No comments

Emmanuel Adebayor grabbed the only goal against Wigan as Arsenal earned a battling victory to maintain their push for Barclays Premier League glory. Adebayor, making his second start after returning from an ankle injury, struck in the 16th minute at the Emirates Stadium and was denied further goals by Chris Kirkland and the woodwork. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger saw Samir Nasri limp off after a robust challenge from Wilson Palacios but could reflect on three points to build on last Sunday’s win over Chelsea. How Arsenal would respond after defeating Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men was seen as a true test of their title credentials, as they have recently struggled against so-called ‘lesser’ opposition.

Wigan vs West Brom 29 Nov 2008

Wigan manager Steve Bruce saw his side chalk up back-to-back wins in the Premier League for the first time since he took charge a year ago after a 2-1 defeat of West Brom. But his nerves must have been shot to pieces as Emmerson Boyce secured the victory with two minutes remaining. That capped a good fightback by the home side with Henri Camara equalising in the 61st minute after Ishmael Miller had opened the scoring for the visitors. West Brom were left cursing Latics goalkeeper Chris Kirkland as he made a string of fine saves to keep them at bay and rooted to the foot of the table. With freezing fog enveloping the ground, there was little to warm the supporters of both sides for long spells.
